DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHER

Documenting humanity in every story & the creativity of our world.

Every human story matters, the humans behind the stories carry inherent dignity and so much depth of beauty can be found in the stunning ordinary of each and every culture and life.

What I do…

“I work with publications as well as NGOs, nonprofits, social enterprises, and individuals to create timeless, timely, & meaningful photographs that stir, engage, and connect. My goal through my work is to offer a listening ear along with experienced perspective & skill that provides an impactful means for others to tell their own story beautifully and truthfully.

Documentary is often set apart from other styles of visual art as intentionally ‘story-form’. I have come to embrace this style of photography because it leaves space to honor the whole person, including their story, & acknowledge the dignity they hold through learning about their background and how they see the world first and foremost.

With that space comes responsibility. I step into any of my work with the acknowledgement that I am not ever owed any piece of someone’s story — I think there is a heavy weight in hearing a story & again in the responsibility of taking a photo. Historically, even photos taken with “good intentions” have been used for selfish or harmful purposes. I am continually on a journey of learning and processing what this looks like and thankful for so many that I have learned from along the way.”

About Holly —

Holly is a documentary photographer currently based in Northwest Arkansas. In addition to digital and film photography, her background in social services continues to be the foundation of her work. She is about people.

I believe in the power of art for healing and meaningful change.

With a certificate in cross-cultural teaching and experience living and working cross-culturally for most of her professional life, she has worked with individuals of all ages from a wide variety of backgrounds. These relationships have been deeply formative in her life and work which centers in human dignity and a pursuit to listen and understand.

Her process includes years of experience with using cameras to create meaningful images, and also a slow approach, taking the time to learn and listen long before the camera comes out.

She holds an Ethics Certification from Photographers Without Boarders.
